At CES, the world's largest consumer electronics trade show, held this week in Las Vegas, Electronic Arts Mobile Games and Nokia have announced a partnership to bring 25 EA games to Windows Mobile, with them debuting first on Lumia phones. That's a smart move for both Windows Mobile and Nokia - and great news for WinMo users who've been crying out for decent games.
The games list includes core titles such as Mirror's Edge, FIFA 12 and Dead Space as well as more casual and family titles such as The Sims Medieval, Monopoly and Bejeweled 2. The news represents a marker for Windows Mobile - which has until now not really attracted too many games developers. But alongside recent changes to the platform to integrate Xbox Live features means the mobile system is now looking much more attractive to gamers. Of course, it's also a bit of a coup for Nokia - coming off the ropes swinging with its excellent new Lumia range of phones.
Can WinMo and Nokia square up to Android and iPhone in terms of attracting gamers and game developers? Not in the near future perhaps, but this could be the groundwork being laid for a bigger fight later. Which phone system is best for gaming? Which will win? Let us know...
